It is no longer a secret to anyone: we eat worse today than yesterday, especially in industrialized countries. The logical result of this observation is the increase in micronutrient deficiencies, which are becoming more and more frequent. Whether in vitamin D, iron, zinc or other essential nutrients, nutritional deficiencies are developing and can, in the long term, have effects on our overall well-being.
Do you seem to be more prone to colds? Is your hair duller than before, your skin less beautiful? You may have a zinc deficiency. Find out more about this antioxidant that is essential for well-being!
What is zinc?
Although present in very low doses in the body (less than 1 mg per kg of body weight), zinc is a trace element essential to the proper functioning of the body. In this same family of trace elements, we can cite iodine, iron, potassium… Each plays several specific roles in the precision mechanics that is the human body.
Zinc, for its part, composes or allows the activation of nearly 200 enzymes, thus accelerating various natural chemical reactions. It plays a role in energy metabolism, intervening in the metabolism of carbohydrates, intervenes in the processes of cell division and therefore of healing or even in the synthesis of proteins.
We recommend our Zinc Bisglycinate, a synergistic formula based on Zinc Bisglycinate and vitamins (B6 and C):
- ✅ High absorption zinc
- ✅ 15 mg of Zinc per tablet
- ✅ Made in France
- ✅ 12 months of treatment
The main sources of zinc
The main sources of zinc are animal and plant products, although the former are better assimilated than the latter. Thus, the products that provide the most zinc are seafood (especially oysters), followed by meat (especially beef and veal).
Zinc is also found in dairy products, such as cheese or yogurts, cocoa powder (unsweetened), whole grains and certain nuts and seeds: almonds, pistachios, pecans or cashews, etc.
What are the benefits of zinc?
One of its main roles is to contribute to the maintenance of the immune system. By ensuring a suitable level of zinc, i.e. 10 to 15 mg per day, you put all your chances on your side to have an efficient immune system, and also to protect your cells from oxidative stress.
As has been said, this antioxidant also plays a major role in the beauty of nails and hair, by helping to synthesize keratin and collagen, proteins present in abundance in these appendages. It is favorable to the quality of the skin, nails and hair.
Zinc also plays a role in male fertility and sexuality because it affects the amount of testosterone, and also muscle mass gain, due to its involvement in protein synthesis.
Zinc dosage and usage tips
A zinc cure is recommended if you want to support your immune defenses, or if you want to take care of your skin or nails.
To support your immunity and take care of your skin, hair and nails, the recommended amount is 10 to 15 mg per day.
The recommended duration of treatment is 2 months. You can renew it by respecting a break of at least two weeks between each treatment.
If you are taking a spirulina cure at the same time, make sure to separate the intake of the two supplements by at least two hours. Indeed, the consumption of zinc tends to limit the assimilation of iron.
And finally, please respect the recommended doses, and do not try to do more! Because this does not mean that you will have more effects or more quickly, but on the contrary can present disadvantages.
How to choose the right zinc food supplement?
If you are zinc deficient, your first instinct should be to review your diet. But in parallel and to restore the situation more quickly, zinc supplementation is obviously a good solution. Provided you choose a healthy, well-dosed and effective product.
The most common form of zinc supplements is the capsule, which is convenient to consume. But not all zinc capsules are equal!
There are two determining factors to consider when making your choice: the amount of active ingredient per capsule, and its degree of absorption. The amount of zinc included in your food supplement is crucial to ensure an effective treatment, so that you don't end up having to consume handfuls of whole capsules every day.
Absorption, however, depends on the form of zinc used in the supplement. Some forms of zinc are more easily absorbed by the body than others; less easily absorbed forms will be much less effective in regulating your zinc levels and bringing them back to normal.
This is why we have chosen zinc bisglycinate as the active ingredient. Indeed, zinc bisglycinate is much better assimilated than other forms such as zinc citrate or zinc oxide. We have also combined it with bioactive vitamin B6, which facilitates the assimilation of zinc.
